Somta M42 Armour-Piercing drills
Used for really heavy duty drilling in work-hardening and heat treated steels. So tough they are successfully used for drilling even the patented Hardox ™ material, and are recommended drilling equipment by the manufacturers (SSAB of Sweden) of this range of tough material. Manufactured to works standard with a 15º helix and a 130º notched point and available in Morse Taper Shank No.2 to No.5 (11mm to 50mm diameters).

Somta M42 Rail drills
8% Cobalt Heavy Duty drills with steam temper finish for drilling manganese rails and other tough steels. Originally designed specifically for the South African Railways, these drills are also successfully used in drilling other very tough steels. Manufactured to works standard with a 20º helix and a 135º notched point and available in Morse Taper Shank No.3 (from 22mm to 35mm diameters).

In South Africa, commonly used and originally designed for efficient drilling of the timber props used in the mines, as well as wooden telephone poles. Fast penetration and drilling rate achieved by a works standard patented 100º screw-thread feed-mechanism point and 42-44º helix combination.
